My first and ever Interview Experience

It was a calm spring morning when all the dreams were realized. Hard to explain the day when I was called for an interview with Sapient, all the butterflies in the world were flying inside my stomach.Needless to say I was very nervous.

I pulled out few books from my bag so that I can get some last minute tips and could be the best ever I was till now. Rather reading I was more waiting for my roommate to come out of the bathroom which was not less than a living room for her. I jumped inside the bathroom as soon as she came out even didn’t bother about the geyser which needs few minutes to warm the water. I was never been so fast in my life to get ready.

The destination reached faster than expected. I could feel the nervousness rising up, suddenly the cell vibrated, displayed number said it was from the interviewing company. The first thought went across the body “Am I late?” Before I pick the call I inspected the watch, it said I was early than ever thought of. This feeling of being on time gave me assurance that it must be for verification. The voice queried about my address for transportation purpose. I denied the offer as I was already in front of the gate.

I had never seen such campus before. I managed to reach the reception, still could not believed that I had gone there for interview. My name tag with the label “Interviewee” was waiting for me. After grabbing the tag I stepped into a big glass room which they call conference room (and in the company they call it as Fish bowl). To my surprise a tall and beautiful lady came near to me and told me with a smile that I was early by two and half hours and insisted me to give the exam right away. I could not deny her offer.

The wait for result was adding to my nervousness. I saw few folks coming into the lobby with the same feeling I had two hours before by then. A voice shouted from other side calling my name. I have never felt my name so special before, when she said “Chinu, you are selected for the next round.”

Next round was supposed to be the technical interview round where in the real techie person will dig your head to the deepest depth ever achieved by any diver. But to my surprise it didn’t happen that way, here they perused a different process. As per their process the candidate need to prove that he/she is correct in his/her logic. I was literally shivering when I was told to explain the code written by me and convince the techie person who had experience not less than 4 to 5 yrs. Those people left me alone in the small glass room which they proclaim Mahanadi WAR room after a thorough inspection of my knowledge behind wring that code.

While waiting for a person to peep in and guide me the next step. Next step could be anything one level up or one step towards the exit. This puzzle of one step was killing me. Well the thirst of solving the puzzle was solved when one lady, the name tag said Kameshwari, came in and wanted me to share some of my college activity where I had taken initiatives ,if any. Then she enquired about my likes and dislikes and wanted a reason for liking or disliking things. I didn’t have a single clue for couple of minutes that she was taking my HR round. This suspense was released when she said “Chinu, you did well in this round. Some one will soon be talking to you”.

Waiting for that “someone” was unbeatable feeling which I suffered till that moment. The same tall beautiful lady to whom I was the first candidate, stepped into the room and the golden words which came out of her mouth was “Welcome to SAPIENT, you are selected for this company”. My pulse ran faster than Ferrari, everything was revolving all around me. I pinched myself just to check if I was dreaming. I asked her to repeat herself. After hearing for the second time all my struggle till that time flew off, could not believe my destiny. She gave me the offer letter and unknowingly two droplets of tears rolled on my cheeks and a pride of being software developer started to implant its root into Chinu. She enquired about my lunch which was yet to be taken. I shook my head and assure her that it’s not mandatory now. She offered me a sandwich.

I came out of the company with broad smile I have ever had in my life. I went to a phone booth to dial a number, as I know the voice in the receiving side will be the happiest one on this earth, because that was my mom.
